CNN —Two gold necklaces dating from around 2,500 years ago have been found by chance in northwestern Spain by a worker for a local water company. Sergio Marciandi was working in Cavandi, Asturias, on August 29 when he spotted a gold necklace among some rocks. Archaeologists are excited about what further study of the necklaces could reveal. Museo Arqueológico de Asturias“It’s really impressive,” said Arias, who added that the find could boost our understanding of the Iron Age, the period in which they were made. While other gold necklaces from the Iron Age have been found, most were discovered in the 18th and 19th centuries, when limited archaeological techniques meant much of the information about their provenance was lost, Arias explained.

Arias was earning $130,000 at her second "fake" tech job. During that time, I had two tech jobs that felt like fake jobs. A mysterious entity had left holes in one of his thin films of bacteria. He took samples from within the holes, spread them on other plates of bacteria and got the same effect. The culprit, it would later turn out, was a phage, a kind of virus that “eats” bacteria. Ireland, an award-winning science journalist, approaches the subject of his first book with curiosity and passion, delivering a deft narrative that is rich and approachable. In the hands of d’Herelle and others, the phage became a potent tool in the fight against cholera.

Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva has been advocating for a common regional policy to end deforestation by 2030, promising his country will reach zero deforestation. However, the failure to agree on a common policy to end deforestation in the Amazon is concerning, as the fate of the rainforest is critical to the health of the planet. It is home to a unique array of animal and plant life, and is crucial to maintaining a global climate balance because it stores a huge amount of carbon and strongly influences global weather patterns. According to CNN affiliate CNN Brasil, Guyana, Suriname and Bolivia left the meeting refusing to agree on a goal. On Monday, Colombia backed an indigenous-led global pact to protect 80% of the Amazon by 2025.

The remains were collected at the Litoral Penitentiary in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where violence first erupted on Saturday. Some of the victims appeared to have been beheaded, the National Forensic Service of Ecuador told CNN en Español Wednesday. Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso has also signed a decree declaring a state of emergency across the country’s entire penitentiary system for the next 60 days. Over the past two years, Lasso has named five different directors of the prison service, but none have proven able to reduce the violence.

Morgan Stanley analysts believe the market for obesity drugs is even larger than initially expected, a finding that aligns with our rosy outlook on Eli Lilly (LLY). The news: Obesity drugs could generate annual sales up to $77 billion in 2030, Morgan Stanley said Friday, a nearly 43% increase to the firm's previous forecast. Insurance reimbursement for obesity drugs has spread quicker than Morgan Stanley expected, which helped prompt the firm to update its multiyear sales outlook. However, there's been some concern that insurance companies would be hesitant to cover this new class of obesity drugs, which carry hefty price tags, along with side effects like nausea and vomiting. CARACAS, July 17 (Reuters) - The families of Venezuelan migrants lost in the Caribbean sea are demanding their government investigate the disappearance of their loved ones after years of stasis. In Aruba, migrants must scale rocky outcrops of up to four meters high and many fail, drowning as a result they said, though bodies have not been found. There are no investigations in Aruba or Curacao into the whereabouts of Venezuelan migrants missing during sea crossings, an official with knowledge of the matter told Reuters. "We went to Caracas to look for answers," said Ana Arias, a 43-year-old housewife whose daughter Luisannys Betancourt went missing on a boat journey in April 2019. Now gray whales in Baja California frequently interact with humans in a remarkable shift. The video showed a gray whale right beside a boat, allowing the captain to pick whale lice off its head. Still, the fact that the gray whales of the Baja lagoons interact with boats and humans at all baffles researchers. The gray whales then make the longest migration of any mammal, with most traveling more than 10,000 miles to their foraging grounds near Alaska. Hunting gray whales is illegal, with some exceptions for Indigenous peoples in Alaska, Canada, and Mexico.

CNN —Hundreds of far-left protesters clashed with police in the eastern German city of Leipzig on Saturday night, during demonstrations over jail terms handed down to several people convicted of vigilante attacks against neo-Nazis. Groups sympathetic to Lina E., who is from Leipzig, have been protesting the verdict. Police tried at first to accommodate the demonstration, but when it turned violent and officers came under attack, authorities responded with force. Five people were arrested, all male German citizens aged 20 to 32 years old, Leipzig police said. “All the information available to the Leipzig police department suggests that protesters will still gather in Leipzig on Saturday despite the ban,” a Leipzig police spokesperson told CNN on Friday.
